From Luang Prabang we went day tripping to a waterfall called Kuang Si. But before we got there, there was a surprise visit to a bear sanctuary which seemed much more interesting than the pandas because they were actually doing something!
But we did make it to the waterfall and it was beautiful. Imagine centre parcs with their lots of little ornate waterfalls flowing serenely into each other with perfectly blue water and palm trees surrounding from either side. Then upstream from them all, a huge 100 metre plus cascade of water crashing down an uneven cliff face into a plunge pool at the bottom. It was very impressive!
After a swim, our energy was lagging so after a trip to get pain au chocolats and our levels were restored again so we went on an intrepid hike scrambling up to the top of the waterfall. The view from there was stunning!
So that left nothing else to do but go down to one of the smaller pools and go on the rope swing! You had to climb up a slippery tree trunk and reach out offer the drop to grab the rope and then make sure that you let go at the right time (Alex once mistimed this and did a large belly flop!). But some hot banana fritters made that feel much better!
