After leaving Chengdu, we were Laos bound and stayed in a couple of pretty cool places in route, including a place with amazing street food and camping in a graveyard!
But the best place was a little village just inside the Laos border. Set deep within a valley of rolling green hills, we stayed in bamboo huts on the riverside. The food was absolutely amazing. This was our first taste of Laos and we loved it! Between us we had chicken with cashews and lemongrass and crispy chilli wild boar and finished off with a chocolate banana pancake! Delicious!
The next morning, we were feeling particularly energetic so we went for a run through the village, out the other side and along the winding hill roads. The landscape seemed to change very quickly once over the border and was now lush and green!
So after our run, we went back and some of us got on a boat for a cruise down the Mekong river to Luang Prabang. The river meanders through more hills and picturesque scenery but it was pretty slow and quite a long way. So to keep us entertained, we had some speakers and an iPod and were living the dream, floating down the Mekong listening to some good tunes!
And eventually we did make it to Luang Prabang but only after a couple of near misses of falling in!
