We arrived in the capital in the most bizarre way.
Kathmandu is in the top 3 most polluted cities in the world, along with Hong Kong and Mexico city. We had heard that there were cars and motorbikes everywhere and because the locals dilute their petrol with cheap kerosene, it creates this smog over the city and most of the locals use face masks to protect themselves.
There was none of this. We arrived and we were the only vehicle on the road. There were a few people on bicycles but other than that, no one.
We later found out that there was a general fuel strike, not unusual for Kathmandu, so all the cars were parked up. But that was fine for us as we got to our hotel with ease!
After our hike, our legs were still aching and we were placed on the fifth floor in a place with no lift! Good stuff!
We were in Kathmandu for a few days and there was a lot to do! We started by hitting the shops! There are hundreds of shops selling some tat and some really cheap decent stuff too!
Our favourite day in Kathmandu was Sunday and it stated by flying to the top of the world! We did a fly by of most of the big peaks in the Himalayas and they looked stunning!
After this adrenaline high, we went to an international church that had been recommended to us and it was amazing! Fellowship was great! And we bumped into a couple of people who are working for a international health crisis management company who worked in places like Haiti and Syria and they were really interesting!
So after this, we went to a pretty cool place called Patan Durbar Square which used to be a palace years ago but now is covered in really ornate carvings.
The rest of our time in Kathmandu was spent doing more shopping, wandering around coffee shops and doing other boring bits like posting stuff.
But, excitingly, our next stop is an adrenaline paradise before hopping across the boarder into Tibet! Hopefully, to see Everest a little closer up...
