The small city of Phnom Penh itself is set beside a river and is an architects dream. Temples, palaces and pagodas line the streets and the ornate rooftops and golden statues create a very pretty display.
We spent a leisurely day wandering through wats, the royal palace and several other temples but always made sure there were regular food and drink breaks.
We managed to get pain au chocolats, fruit shakes and some very tasty local Khmer cuisine. We also found a cupcake shop (too girly!) and a Dairy Queen. If you have never been to a dairy queen, it should be on your bucket list! Lots of ice cream deliciousness mixed with oreos or other wonderful flavours!
The palace was busying itself as the king was coming the following day so great bunches of flowers were being prepared, gold polished and the road was even being painted yellow!
Our time in the city itself was lovely and chilled out, but I think that was a necessity after the horrors of the day before.
The next city on our travels is Siem Reap, where something special waits for us!
