Beautiful Bulgaria

The drive from Romania to Bulgaria was mainly beautiful. Having never been in either Romania or Bulgaria, we were unsure what the terrain would be like. Both countries are hillier than we imagined, but the main focal point where fields upon fields of radiant sunflowers.

We had an uneventful border crossing, despite the border control officers taking photos of the truck. The truck was flagged down later by police, for no apparent reason, just a closer look at the beast.

Veliko Tarnovo was our next stop. We've been staying in a heavenly campsite - clean toilets, toilet roll, hot showers and a swimming pool = bliss! The cobbled streets, with little shops and a spectacular fort, with the remaining ancient walls, made the town delightful to potter through.

Our stay here was finished by having the local Bulgarian woman's pensioner's group (basically WI) singing and dancing for us. They endured and encouraged us to join in with their dance at the end (Alex didn't quite fit the traditional dress or build, particularly massive feet in flipflops do not lend themselves to dancing in a circle with small women!).

But that draws the Europe phase of our trip to a close. Asia here we come.....

Our neon yellow lemonade!

    1. We saw the final in Istanbul - how exciting! We took both the Sony Nex-5 and our underwater camera, the Lumix DMC-TS3. We hear you guys have a heat wave - it is currently 29 degrees at nearly midnight here!
